The recent Del Norte Works CTE fair sparks career exploration beyond high school, uniting students with diverse opportunities!

Career Connections: Empowering Students through CTE Fairs

On April 23rd, Del Norte Works and Del Norte High School hosted a dynamic CTE College and Career Fair, inviting local businesses, college representatives, local agencies, and military recruiters, giving students access to explore a myriad of opportunities awaiting them beyond high school. Matthew Long, CTE Program Technician, emphasized the event's key benefits for students, highlighting the exposure to diverse career options, including those not requiring college degrees, and the chance to envision future career paths within various sectors. It also provides opportunities to businesses and agencies looking to recruit or help nurture a student's interest in particular career pathways.

Many of our local businesses and industry professionals utilize the fair as an opportunity to provide practical insights and experiences to students, showcasing the breadth of career opportunities available in the community. For students, engaging with industry representatives offers invaluable connections and access to resources like the Workforce Center, enhancing their support network and facilitating career exploration.

College representatives, such as those from Cal Poly Humboldt and College of the Redwoods, encourage students to come prepared to ask questions, emphasizing the potential for valuable feedback on career pathways. Attending the fair also provides students with insights into the hands-on experiences offered by colleges, igniting excitement about potential fields of study.

Additionally, the fair featured local agencies such as local law enforcement, National and State Parks,  and military recruiters, offering students further avenues for exploration. These agencies provided information on additional career paths and resources available in the community, while military recruiters offered insights into the opportunities and benefits of a career in the armed forces.

For Del Norte students, the fair offered a chance to gain specific skills and insights into community opportunities and college offerings. By participating, students aim to shape their future educational and career decisions, setting new goals and exploring previously unrecognized possibilities.

Overall, the CTE College and Career Fair serves as a platform for empowerment, enabling students to make informed decisions about their future paths. By connecting with local businesses, colleges, agencies, military recruiters, and peers, attendees gained valuable insights, expanded their networks, and discovered a multitude of pathways leading to rewarding careers. Such events not only bridge the gap between education and employment but also inspire the next generation to pursue their passions with confidence and purpose.
