About Del Norte Community School

Del Norte Community School

Del Norte Community School, Home of the Osprey's, is located in Crescent City California. It is a Court/Community school serving the students of Del Norte County. We are located about 20 minutes south of the Oregon stateline on the Pacific coast.

Our school offers small class sizes and shorter school days to encourage students to enroll in the local Community College, obtain and maintain employment, or attend court mandated appointments. All core curriculum is offered as well as career pathways in agriculture, construction, and health. Our courses are designed to include as many hands on activities as possible. Our kitchen, greenhouse, laser engraver and 3-D printer are used almost daily as part of our instruction in many different areas, encouraging creative thinking.

History

Del Norte Community School came to be when Del Norte Community Day School and McCarthy Alternative Education Center combined at their current location during the 2014/2015 school year. The following summer the site underwent construction to combine two classrooms and add a culinary kitchen to increase the Career Technical Education offerings. The site now consists of three classrooms, one career tech lab, and one computer lab.

Career Tech Ed has remained a important additon since DNCS's beginnings. Over the following years several CTE offerings have been offered according to staff credentials and student interest. These additions have included Agriculture, construction, culinary arts, health career pathways, engineering, electronics, laser engraving, and 3D printing. All of these courses are integrated within the core curriculum as well.
